The hustle and the bustle of the city is bad enough. But, just another slap in the face is the rising costs of energy in a money strapped economy. This has been one of the worst economic times in history. And, along with that, the cost of energy use in the land has grown to levels where it is a daily struggle to make ends meet. You think that this can be impossible, even for a person like you? Wrong. You could be making a huge change in your financial future, and all the while living pretty much like you have done before, just maybe a few differences. If you think you don't know where to start, just read on.
One of the first things you are going to have to do is to shop around for a piece of land that someone is willing to sell you that is not in an area that is very accessible to electricity. That is a major factor. Stay away from electricity. There are plenty of land owners in this country that are very willing to sell their land at a very inexpensive rate. They are strapped for cash too, you know, so they are more than likely to make you a great deal.
If you end up getting the ideal land piece you want, then you are going to want to build a home. Buying a manufactured home and dragging it on the land is not what you want. It is wired for electricity. So, make some plans to build a home to your specifications. Use materials that will insulate well and have a very high R value. You are going to start living simply now. Make sure your home faces the south to take full advantage of the sun in the winter.
One very easy way to heat your home in the winter is to make sure you have a large fireplace. The best place for a fireplace if you are using it to heat your home is in the center of the home. That gives the heat a chance to move around your home easier. Also, you will want to incorporate the use of solar panels. This will make is easy to light and power your home. You don't want to be reliant on an electric company.
Since you are living out rurally, you are going to need to have your own water source. The only way to do this is if you dig a well and power a pump with solar panels. If not, then you will end up using a bucket to do the work.
Cooking is not that hard with a wood stove. Just make sure that when you are planning to heat your home and cook in the winter you have more than enough wood for the entire winter period. The wood needs to be cut early enough so that it can be dry for winter burning.
Getting off the utility grid just takes some thought. It also takes a little investment. But, the investment is well worth not paying all those bills anymore. I have personally managed to build my own home DIY wind mill system simply following a DIY guide online.
